Kat's love for art began at a very early age. Her paternal grandfather was a self-taught portrait artist and her father is also a very gifted artist. Both of her parents were potters and always encouraged her creativity.

When Kat was 16, with little guidance and an abundance of ambition she started painting murals in her family home and knew then that her calling was to be a professional artist.

In 1996 she graduated from Texas State University (San Marcos, TX)  with a BFA and began a career in graphic design.  She started her own design company just after college, branding her own businesses and that of many throughout the years.

Throughout her fine art career she tinkered with many abstract techniques until she created the textural weave style (in 2004) that she continues to use and develop today.

Kat is also an illustrator and has a large collection of whimsical greeting cards for any occasion.

Kat was approached by Art on 5th in Austin, Texas to show her work and from September 2012 until June 2016 was a featured artist.

In January of 2009 she wrote her first novel, Feel the Burn.  Available on www.barnesandnoble.com

She currently works as an illustrator/graphic designer and shows her work throughout the Texas Hill Country and at Art Beat Studio & Gallery.  She lives in the beautiful hill country of Johnson City, Texas with her son.

“A painter should begin every canvas with a wash of black, because all things in nature are dark except where exposed by the light.”
